Civil War Feeds Yebbut

We were lucky enough to see Richard Wilkins speaking recently - we were captivated from the start, moving between laughter and thoughtfulness. He's a definite 'must see'.

Richard's an international inspirational speaker and author, and knows a LOT about human consciousness.

He spoke of the civil war(s) that can rant, rampage and run around in our heads. The problem is, the civil war can take you away from your great ideas.

He challenges us to get beyond our intellects and get in touch with our 'self'.

Of course, this isn't as easy as it sounds, not least because discovering your true purpose can confuse ... and confused people externalise and generate resistance.

So think carefully what you put into your 'system' - if I type rubbish \sdlkvgjslgijaergoiz7645uyb c#']=  into this post, then rubbish comes out. \sdlkvgjslgijaergoiz7645uyb c#']=.  See?

It's the same with your system: if you put stress and anxiety in, you'll get it out.

But if you put calm excitement (not an oxymoron) and success in, you'll get calm excitement and success out.

However, just thinking positive won't work - not if you have a 'script' inside that tells you "Yeah, but..." or "Yebbut"

It's that one that, when you get a compliment on a job well done, the script says, "Yebbut, I wouldn't have done it without the others" or "Yebbut, if only they knew how I so nearly messed it up."

It's the script that feeds your low self esteem, anxiety, doubt and fear.

It's not all doom and gloom - what's bad is if you know intellectually  that you 'should' feel good about yourself and your capabilities, but still feel pretty rotten and tense.

What's good is that these scripts - often handed down through the generations - CAN be changed.

People find change through counselling, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), TFT (thought field therapy), EFT (emotional freedom technique), and so on.

Or they read books by people like Robert Holden, or go on courses run by people like Richard who claims that 'your purpose is to be who you are MINUS the script'.

In the meantime, if you do feel anxious about something, ask yourself how you would do it if you weren't anxious ... and then do that.

As a coach, you have a double whammy - you are dealing with your script and the clients' scripts! Move yours aside (recognising them for what they are), and look out for the clients' scripts - deal with them, and you'll have much better short and long-term results.

And a last quote from Richard:  "We are all Superheroes pretending to be ordinary people, our true purpose is to be who we really are, minus the Script. Everything else then becomes easy when you become the Superhero."
