5 Simple Steps to Big Changes

Sometimes we can spend so much time looking after our families and clients, we can forget to look to ourselves.

Have you had this happen in the last year: you spend hours working on a new process and get everything into place – structure, procedure, the lot … and then you carry on in the old way.

Perhaps you read a book that gets you so excited you can’t put it down and then you have a few hectic days and you don’t take any of it on board…

Or maybe you go to a fantastic seminar and come away fired up and ready to act … and then a couple of days later life has distracted you, and you forget to take those actions.

It happens to us all!

Now’s the time to put your coaching hat on for yourself and take these steps:

  1. Identify what’s in your way right now. Is it something like needing a website, or not allowing enough time to get the children ready in the mornings? Is it fear of cold calling, or just that you’re beginning to realise you’re not in quite the right coaching niche.

If you get these worries and niggles out of the way, you’ll feel better and have a greater chance of success.

  1. Decide on your plan – just pick one thing to run with for now. Work out how you will know when you’ve reached the goal, including little steps along the way. Decide too whether you will need things like training or more space and work out how you will meet those needs.

Just keeping it in your head means you will forget it or bring your mind round to other ways of thinking – it’s so easy to persuade yourself that doing something else really won’t matter!

Instead, write it down, or record or video it (or all three), and put it where you can see it.

  2. Three weeks can just zip by, so how about starting a new habit in that time?  Just commit to following your dream / promise / plan / strategy for 21 days – it’ll become a habit, and eventually second nature.

  3. While you’re at it, keep a diary – not just of what you’ve been doing, but how you felt and how well different tasks and events went.

Are there some things you’d like to do some more of, and are there some things you’d definitely like to streamline, outsource or delegate? How can you fit these wishes into your plan – will you need to amend it slightly?

  4. Now you’ve reached your goal and made your habit, spend a few delicious days visualising the next thing you want to start on, and then go back to step one.

Do let us know what you decided to do, what you did, and your thoughts. If we publish your comments, we’ll include a link back to your site, for example.

Here’s to an excellent 21 habit-forming days
